Question: Do the Aquasana products remove fluoride?

Answer:  Both the AQ-4000 and the EQ-300 will reduce fluoride by 40-60%. This is accomplished with the activated coconut shell carbon. Activated carbon will remove 2 of the 4 fluorine isotopes, which will typically lower fluoride levels to below .5 ppm.

Question: How do I remove the A-cartridge from the AQ-4000 if it is stuck?

Answer: Because it is very important that the A-cartridge not be bypassed by the untreated water, the AQ-4000 forces a strong seal on the A-cartridge. If you are having difficulties removing your A-cartridge, all you need to do is fold up a towel on your kitchen counter, and with the A-cap removed, give the filter a light tap on the counter, and the cartridge should jump right out.

Question: If I'm the only one using the Aquasana drinking water filter, can I wait 12 months to change the cartridges?

Answer: The AQ-4000 is certified to treat 500 gallons, which means that we had to prove the performance through 1000 gallons to give you a built in safety window. Even a family of 6 is unlikely to use a full 1000 gallons in a six month period. Carbon is the building block of life, and will allow bacteria to colonize on its surface as soon as it gets wet. Unlike the AQ-4100 and EQ-300 which use KDF-55 (55% copper, 45% zinc), the AQ-4000 does not contain anything to inhibit bacteria growth. We no longer use KDF-55 in drinking water filters because high levels of copper are not good for the brain. Some companies use silver to prevent bacteria build-up, but recent studies have shown that silver has similar health effects to lead. Silver collects in the left testicle or the left ovary and can cause hypertension, brain damage, and other negative health effects. Companies that use silver in their cartridges must register their products with the FDA as a pesticide. Because there is nothing toxic in our cartridges to prevent bacteria growth, the AQ-4000 will reach detectable levels of heterotrophic bacteria after 7-8 months, and dangerous levels after 12-14 months. To prevent bacteria build-up, the AQ-4000's cartridges should be changed every 6 months, regardless of use. The KDF-55 used in the AQ-4100 and the EQ-300 prevents them from growing bacteria, so a single person using the AQ-4100 Pure Shower System can go a full year between cartridge replacements, and the Rhino EQ-300 can be used until your water bill shows that you've used over 300,000 gallons.

Question:  What's the difference between the single cylinder Crystal Quest Counter top and Under Sink Filters and the triple cylinder versions?

Answer:  Increased levels of filtration.  The double and triple cyclinder models add a pre-sediment filter and on the triple a final filtration media to eliminate anything that might be left for optimum performance.

Question:  Why are the Crystal Quest filters less expensive than the Aquasana filters?

Answer:  Testing.  Aquasana has invested heavily in independent testing to verify the filtration claims and specifications of its products by UL industries, and the California Board of Health and Sanitation which has some of the most stringent critieria in the industry.  Aquasana holds 17 patents on their products.  Aquasana also advertises more extensively than Crystal Quest.  Crystal Quest has a broader selection of products to meet the needs of the domestic as well as commercial sectors of the industry, and is able to offer a broader range of pricing. Crystal Quest relies on NSF certification of all the components used in their full line of water filtration systems.

Question:  How long have the two companies been in business?

Answer:  Aquasana has 15 years in the industry, 17 patents and over 9 million products sold.  Crystal Quest has over 30 years in the industry.  Both sell and have active distributors nationally and internationally.

Question:  Why do Crystal Quest filters last longer than Aquasana filters?

Answer:  Crystal Quest uses KDF55 as a filtration media in all their filters including the drinking water filters which prevents bacteria buildup inside the filter. *(see Questions can I wait 12 months to change the filter above re: Aquasana)

Question:  I have very bad brine water and I want to know if your filters will help it out. I have had the water tested and it pegged out the hardness meter at over 5,000ppm instantly. The water itswlf tested out to be very good other than the heavy salt content.

Answer:  The best solution to remedy your water problem is reverse osmosis. I would recommend CQE-CO-02029 5000 gpd. This unit will eliminate your brine/hard water, but with the hardness of your water the output of the RO system will be reduced from 5000 gal per day to approximately 2500 gpd. Crystal Quest will also build custom systems.  They can build a less expensive filter system that won’t completely eliminate the brine/hard water but will greatly reduce it.  Let me know what your budget is and if you want to pursue another option.

Questions regarding the CQE-WC-00902 Water Cooler:

Question 1 – What are the reverse osmosis recovery rates for each of the water tanks ‘hot and cold’ for the CQE-WC-00902?

A1  The recovery rate for the RO is one gal for every three.

Question 2  - How do you know when to replace the filters?

A2  The filters should be replaced every two years with the exception of the RO filter which should be replaced every three to four years or when the water output is noticed to be significantly less.

Question 3 - Will all four filters need to be replaced at the same time?

See above

Question 4 – Which are the correct replacement cartridges for the CQE-WC-00902?

A4   RC-04038 @ $31.50, RC-04039 @ $45.50, RC-04040 @ $57.00, RC04041 @ $65.50   (**So far there is no charge for shipping & handling of replacement cartridges.)

Question 5 – How does the reverse osmosis work in this water cooler?

A5  The reverse osmosis functions as all RO systems do. There is one line going into the filtration system and two lines on exiting. There is a tank if you will (reservoir) on all our RO systems. The term hybrid is only referring to a generic model as all our RO water coolers function the same.

Question 6 – Do you have any service companies you recommend in the Nashville, Tennessee area should the hot water stop making the water hot or is this something that can be fixed with phone support from Crystal Quest?

Not at this time if you experience any service problems contact our technical support.
